January, 22 2014 – Representatives of the FIAT Automobile Industry led by Mr. Antonio Ferrara, the Chairman of the Board and the Chief Executive Director of “FIAT Automobili Serbia Ltd.” and his associates, Mr. Gerard Clarke , Commercial Director, Mr. Diego Velini, Corporation Manager and partners Mr. Milo Lalević, General Manager for the Balkans and Mr. Snežan Kovinić, dealer of the FIAT group in Montenegro were in the Visit to the Public Procurement Administration of Montenegro.
The meeting was organized at the request of the Italian Embassy in Montenegro, with the aim of presenting and positioning of the FIAT Company in Montenegro. FIAT Automobili Serbia, Ltd. (Kragujevac) annually produce 150,000 cars and it is one of the important driving force for the development of the Port of Bar because the export to the other destinations across the world is carried out over our Port. In addition to the presentation, interest on Italian side was moved in the direction of legislative structure relating the Public Procurement Policy, procedures, its participation as the foreign company at our tenders, and other issues of relevance for the cooperation with our institutions and the economy.
On behalf of the Public Procurement Administration this high-level delegation of FIAT was received by the Head of the Procurement Administration, DSc Mersad Mujevic and the Advisor for the international cooperation in the field of Public Procurement, Sanja Poleksić.
In his presentation Mr. Mujevic pointed out the opportunities provided by the Public Procurement Law with the emphasis on its alignment to the relevant EU acquis, adding that Montenegro harmonized its legal system with the EU rules and such an effort of Montenegro was recognized by the EU in opening the Chapter 5 – Public Procurement; Surely, the emphasis was on the policy and obligations of the portfolio taken over by joining the WTO and soon to the GPA. It was also pointed to the fact that Montenegrin Law on Public Procurement does not recognize the preferential system in Montenegro, and the conditions for participation in the Montenegrin market are the same for the foreign and the domestic bidders.
During the meeting it was agreed upon all the steps of the FIAT which the Administration will accompany and assist within the frame of its jurisdiction in Montenegro. Representatives of the Administration are invited to visit the car plant in Turin by the FIAT visitors, so as to contribute to the positioning of the small and medium economies of our country from the aspect of the potential partnership in a sense of producing some components that this Industry recognizes.
The initial meeting represents the beginning of our fruitful future cooperation between one of the largest investors in the region, the Italian Company FIAT and the Government of Montenegro.
